Vintage Love

If anyone’s wondering what the heck happened to the Warren project that I blogged about the first stages of his myspace site, I finally finished it last week after holding it off for a while because my life all of a sudden got so busy. This is sort of the continuation blog.

So after solving the problem of expanding the width of the image, I had to add text using the typeface called “Rolloglide”. I took it into Illustrator to fix it up a bit so it’s a little more interesting on the page. Then I added a simple animation, sent it over to flash to add buttons and also to create a loop starting from a certain part of the animation. My space is NOT an easy site to work with and I am not a big fan plus those banner ads ruin the layout but to completely remove it would result in the account being terminated. Luckily I found the code to just push the banner down so it’s not the first thing you see when you enter the page bahh! Never the less, it is finished just in time for his Juno Fest performance. Perhaps when I find more time, I will do more fancy things with his space… but it should be okay for now.

I can’t wait to watch him at Juno Fest!

Time after time…

Every year my dance school PraiseTEAM has a year end production which takes a whole year of work, practice and preparation. My dad usually is the one who does all the designing but for the last three years I have taken over the task of designing the posters for the show. This year’s theme is about “time” so I am back to the clock business again but I don’t mind because I’m oddly amused by clocks. There were a lot of revisions for this project because there were certain elements that had to be included or had to be a certain way. The title of the show is “Kairos” which has quite an interesting meaning… you can click on the name to read about it.
.
So I started with a sketch… I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going with it but I just started drawing and tried to see where it went. As you can see I didn’t finish the whole clock because well… I don’t know I just didn’t.

.

Then I brought it into illustrator to vectorize it using the pen tool. This was a little difficult considering I lost the pen for my tablet =(… I took several different steps to put the shape that I wanted for the clock together. I decided to put a little twist on the clock’s rim. Then added shadows to add some depth.
.

Next I took a couple of pictures of my dad’s hand and cleaned it up a bit…
.
.

So I brought all these elements together in photoshop and played around with textures, color, and shades. And ofcourse uploading it to the internet ruins the color but what can you do…

And I had no choice but to add more text in there so people have information on when and where the show is.

Storytime! wait…. wat?

I recently found out that they’re making a Filipino version the movie Twilight. Are you kidding me? They can’t even make good quality films. The original film was pretty low budget as it is, and the Filipino movie makers think they can do a better job? I don’t know what annoys me more…. the fact that filipino movies totally suck and are unoriginal… or the fact that someone just photoshopped the original poster and put the filipino actor’s faces in it… and they managed to do a horrible job at it…. I don’t know but WTF

-

” Tweenies all over are outraged over news of a Filipino version of Twilight for television set to begin production soon. Actors Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao will be portraying Edward and Isabella, respectively, in the ABS-CBN production which will treat the vampire love story as “drama, romance, and fantasy.”It will be directed by Cathy Garcia Molina and is scheduled to begin filming sometime in February, in both the Philippines and abroad. The news comes as an upheaval to Twilighters across the internet, who have started an online petition to halt production on Takipsilim because it will “ruin the real Twilight.”

Oh don’t worry, the American money-grubbing sequel is already working on that! “

Check out my next project! My friend Julio bought me 4 mini munny’s because he always saw me freak out whenever I saw one. Yes I’m quite happy…. Thanks Foolie!!

Meet the Munnies

Stay tuned on what’s to become of these little ones…

Some of you may know… I filled in Ivan’s place in Sequence while he’s off in Mexico. This is my first taste in working for a company and I’m having a great time! I’ve only been there two days but I’ve already learned so much so I’m enjoying the experience. I am a bit stressed out though because I have a lot of other things I need to worry about, outside of work. There’s just so much to think about and so much to do that I’m starting to feel a little burned out. Never the less, I am very grateful that I’m given opportunities to put my talents to good use.

Bah.. oh well

About 3 weeks ago my friend Boogie told me about a contest Harbour Dance Center was having. Harbour is a studio downtown where you go and take drop in dance classes of all sorts, hiphop, ballet, jazz, tap, breaking, locking, ballroom… ALL SORTS. They had a design contest and the winner gets free drop in classes for a whole week… I mean OMG!!! I want I want. It’s about 16$ per drop in class so do you know how much I could save if I could get a week of free dance classes? To my dismay… I got really busy the past within the 3 weeks so I couldn’t work on it til the night before it was due which seemed a little impossible seeing as I take quite a while to come up with something creative but I mean…had to try!
.

I started off with the pen tablet trying to make it all sketchy looking but I decided to switch off my grungy ways for once. I don’t know how many dancer/designers are out there so I don’t really know what my competition is but I’m pretty sure there will be lots of them that will have ultimate grunge… you know… the typical paint splatters, vector dancers and super bold in your face text. I want to be different from that. It ended up looking totally different from what I had in mind in the first place but for some reason I had to keep going this direction. I wanted to do more with it before handing it in but I have other work to do. And incase they’re using it for print on clothing purposes, it was very difficult to not do anything too fancy with it.
.

.

I don’t know if they want something more “hardcore” looking? but this is how I saw Harbour Dance Center. I chose the shoes to show the different styles they had there and the laces to represent movement.

So cute….

I finally got the assets needed from Warren to start designing. We had discussed the things he needed and my first task is to fix up his myspace page to make it all slick and professional looking. Apparently a lot of artists are promoting their music through myspace and it’s a great way for people to have a little sample of their songs that are coming out. Seems like a pretty easy task because the whole page is pretty much laid out I just need to design a good banner to make the page attractive to the visitors as soon as they enter. The first thing I had to do was edit the picture he wanted to use. It was a square shaped picture so I had to figure out how to fit it into a banner shape without the edge looking choppy. I decided to use the amazing marquee, copy, and paste method… with a little bit of “blending mode” magic.

Here’s the Original Image

And here’s what I’ve done so far… I may expand it and what not, but for now I just wanted to see if I was able to solve the problem. I think it works?
